Oregon fetid adder’s tongue

Scoliopus hallii – Oregon fetid adder’s tongue – 09 March 2016.

I went on a wildflower adventure to Winston, OR (near Roseburg) yesterday specifically to see these lilies along Olalla Creek.  They are an early spring bloomer and the flowers were much smaller than I imagined.  I also read that they smell like rotten meat, but my nose did not pick up on such a scent.

p.s. If you find yourself in Winston, OR and enjoy wine, this winery is a must stop. (Tastings were 3 for $5 -or- 5 for $10.  There is also a small menu if you’re hungry.)
